Hi, I’m Sam!
I'm a recent graduate of Pacific Northwest College of Art’s Collaborative Design MFA program, where I studied design research, participatory design, and applied systems thinking. I also have a BA in Geology and Environmental Studies from Whitman College and worked as an environmental consultant for 15 years prior to getting my MFA.
My diverse background spans the technical and the creative. I love puzzling through complex problems to find creative solutions. My recent work focuses on making geology more accessible to non-geologists with physical materials and engagements that encourage a new way of seeing the world. I am a lifelong maker and have tried nearly every craft in the book. Paper engineering is my latest creative pursuit and I am currently working on a mineralogy themed pop-up book.
